Court remands Ndume in prison for failing to produce Maina in alleged N2.2bn fraud trial

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, ordered the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Army, Ali Ndume, to be remanded in Kuje Prison for failing to produce the former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reformed Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, in court.

Justice Okon Abang, who gave the directive, said Ndume had failed to file a formal application to explain why he should not forfeit the N500million bail bond he deposed to on May 5 to stand as surety for Maina.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) counsel, Mohammed Abubakar, had on November 18, asked the court to make an order for the lawmaker to forfeit the bail bond since Maina had jumped bail.

He also asked the court to revoke Maina’s bail and issue a warrant of arrest on him.

The judge revoked Maina’s bail and subsequently ordered a bench warrant for the defendant’s arrest anywhere he is found.

The former pension task team chief has failed to appear in court since he was granted bail on December 23, 2019.
